1. Content development - The Center has established a Content Council that will determine the overarching stories for the center. It is chaired by professor Earl Lewis of Emory University along with co-chairs Darlene Clark Hines of Northwestern University, and Professor Cliff Kuhn of Georgia State University. The Council’s 23 members include scholars, movement leaders, artists and museum, education, and media experts.
2. Public engagement - The Center will undertake a comprehensive public engagement plan to raise public awareness of the Center’s mission while collecting input and ideas from community stakeholders.
3. Organization structure - The Center will establish a non-profit organization by the first quarter of 2008. The Partnership also expects to identify potential members of the board of directors by 2008.
4. Architecture and Design - The Center will undertake an economic impact study, create an interpretive master plan for the Center and coordinate architectural design.
5. Fundraising - The Center will identify potential funders for financial support. Public entities on a national, state, and local level will be solicited, as well as private entities including corporations, individuals, and foundations.
6. Archives and article collection - The Center will identify potential materials and resources and collaborate with other Atlanta Institutions regarding the Center’s holdings.
