60 Years of Progress…10 Days of Recognition

Atlanta Honors the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

 

In conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948, The Center for Civil and Human Rights will sponsor a 10 day series of events to raise awareness of the UDHR.  These events will educate, inform, and engage the public concerning the UDHR and raise awareness of this historic document, its successes and challenges.  Please complete a volunteer interest form and contact us at volunteer@cchrpartnership.org if you’re interested in volunteering!

Opening Event

Speakers include Mayor Shirley Franklin and Ulrich Maly, the Mayor of Nuremberg. Performances from local youth performing arts organizations. Video presentation; and acknowledgement of the winners from the Children’s Art Contest

Film Festival

Screenings of films exploring human rights issues.  Cosponsored by the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Film Festival, and Campus MovieFest in conjunction with the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.

Citywide Children’s Art and Writing Contest

Youth Art Connection

December 4, 2008

Children and youth will be encouraged to develop creative pieces embodying the ideals set forth within the Declaration’s 30 articles.  The artwork will be displayed at multiple venues throughout the city with a special reception for artists and their guests

Evening of Spoken Word and Music

December 8, 2008

7:30 PM

Showcase including a symphonic work which features the text of the UDHR and worldwide sources- concerning the ethic of reciprocity.

Religious Outreach

 

Ongoing outreach efforts to a wide variety of religious institutions across the city requesting that clergy of all backgrounds include the UDHR in their sermons the weekend before or after the December 10th anniversary

Juried Art Exhibition and Silent Auction
