What a thrill. Meeting the Secretary General of the United Nations and hearing him talk about the impact of seeing the King Papers on him personally. He was in town to undertake several events and as part of his visit, he spent almost 2 hours viewing a small part of the collection and giving a speech on the link between civil and human rights.

One of the reasons for the visit was the series of connections we at the CCHR are developing with the United Nations. We have been working on ways to partner with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNESCO, and the Secretary General's office. The power of the idea of linking Civil and Human Rights, and Atlanta's relevance to the global discussion of contemporary issues was illustrated in the visit.
For me personally it was quite a thrill, especially because the Secretary General and I are both alum of the Harvard Kennedy School.
